​When the winds howl and cold waves lap at your feet—that’s when the spirit of inclusion truly ignites.

This year’s 2025 Polar Plunge, proudly coordinated by the NSW Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) in partnership with Special Olympics Australia, expanded across multiple locations. Among them: the inaugural Dee Why Rock Pool event on Sunday, 3 August 2025, featuring a stirring torch run at 8:45 AM and the plunge at 9 AM.

Despite stormy conditions and a Coastal Surf Warning, around 100 brave participants—including off-duty police officers and community members—took the icy dip at Dee Why this this year.

This year, our very own Charlie joined the torch relay and took the plunge at Dee Why—demonstrating fearless support for athletes with intellectual disabilities and/or autism.

What their participation meant:

• A bold expression of our collective commitment to inclusion.

• A moment to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with police, community members, and Special Olympians in a meaningful, spirited cause.

• A symbolic act of bringing light—quite literally—into the world of Special Olympics.

Why It Matters

The Polar Plunge is more than a chilly splash—it’s an energizing, community-driven effort to raise funds, awareness, and joy for Special Olympics athletes. Events like Dee Why underscore how local action fuels inclusion through sport.

Every splash counts, with over $460K raised for the Special Olympics this year.
